Game Development

We create unique, entertainment-focused games with impact. By blending our expertise in sustainability science with creative game design, we make serious topics approachable for a broad audience. Stay tuned for our current project: Hotspot Earth, a mix of rogue-lite bullet heaven, management-elements and climate simulation.

Co-Development & Consulting

We support other game studios with our sustainability and climate expertise. This ranges from incorporating these complex topics into gameplay and stories in scientifically accurate, impactful ways to guidance on green game development techniques. We also help with sustainability processes, measuring your impact, and reporting.

Education & Workshops

We give talks on game development and sustainability, covering everything from sustainability communication and climate-friendly game development to sustainability reporting. In interactive formats, we turn theory into practice, including micro-jams with schools and the Vienna Climate Pact Game Jam.

The Team

Terragami started as an idea in 2020 and was officially founded in 2024 by two climate and sustainability experts, Doris Vollgruber and Jan Steinhauser. They joined forces to create a new stage for sustainability science, make it more engaging and entertaining, and reach a new audience.

Doris

Following her graphic design training and her studies of climate science, Doris went on to support both the private and public sectors in their efforts to mitigate climate change and adapt to its consequences. This expertise guides Terragami's content development.

Jan

Jan's heart beats for both games and science. After years as writer, game content editor and social analyst, he went into climate science to research sustainable futures. To merge both worlds, he now investigates how games can help science communication.

The Bramble Cay Melomys

Our logo references the Bramble Cay melomys. It is one of many species that were lost in the ongoing human-caused Holocene mass extinction and the first documented case of a mammal going extinct due to the human-caused climate crisis, due to habitat loss though sea level rise. There are already many more victims of the climate crisis out there - both human and non-human - and their numbers will explode if we don't take decisive action. The fate of the Bramble Cay melomys serves as a constant reminder and motivates us to create games that communicate this urgency.
